Set during the Foot and Mouth outbreak in the late 90s in Northern Ireland, the story revolves around two aging farmers, Ian and Gerry. They live beside the border to the South of Ireland; they are not the most conventional of farmers however. With the latest outbreak of Foot and Mouth the two farmers make an executive decision, to save their herd, made up of three cows: Jimi, Kurt and Elvis. Ian loves his cows like they were his own children. As for Gerry, he will go along with whatever Ian says sooner or later.

Sid and Davina, two environmental officers, have been given the job of routing out the sick animals and as the farms all around are being closed down Ian makes a decision, to get the herd to safety. A wildlife sanctuary is just the ticket; however there is a slight problem. The wildlife sanctuary in question is three miles off the coast of Cork, at the very foot of the South of Ireland, and they live in the North.

As Sid and Davina draw closer to Ian’s farm, Gerry sends them off in the opposite direction and joins Ian and the herd on the adventure of a lifetime. The cow road trip is now on and the clock is ticking.
